MY STORY

My heart has always been about coming alongside people who are hurting, to gently encourage and support them to be the best they can be, whatever their circumstances.

Throughout my varied career as a nurse, midwife, college lecturer and foster carer I have been able to follow my heart and walk with individuals in this way. Hardly surprising then that I ventured into the counselling world in 2006 to commence a change in career that would allow me the privilege of walking humbly alongside people through some of their darkest moments and the joy of seeing them emerge from their place of suffering to find acceptance, emotional healing and a sense of wholeness.

Qualifications and experience:

  • MA Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy USW (ongoing until 2021)

  • Post Grad Diploma Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy USW (2020)

  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (L4) Coleg Gwent (2009)

  • Advanced Diploma Counselling Coleg Gwent (2008)

  • Advanced Certificate Counselling Coleg Gwent (2007)

  • Certificate Counselling skills Coleg Gwent (2006)

  • RGN UHW (1986)

  • Diploma in Midwifery RGH (1989)

  • PGCE USW (2010)

Having spent 17 years enjoying a career in Midwifery, thriving on the relationship I was able to build with families during this special time, I embarked on a counselling skills course that (unknown to me at the time) was not only the start of a new career but also led me on a journey of self-discovery which has resulted in personal growth and fulfilment in so many areas of my life.

As a therapist I have gained valuable experience working in third sector agencies, counselling clients with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, addiction, pregnancy loss and post termination support. Recently I have been practicing within an organisation who provide counselling services to substance users in recovery.

I was employed in the public sector as Counsellor for Gwent Police for 4 years and provided therapeutic support for both Police officers and civilians who had experienced/witnessed trauma, work related issues or personal difficulties. I was employed as a lecturer in Counselling at Coleg Gwent for 10 years and had the privilege of teaching what I felt passionate about whilst being able to nurture future therapists as they too developed a real passion for working with people in this way

I am happy to work with whatever issue you bring to therapy however I would consider my specialist areas to be: living with disability (either self or family member) and issues relating to pregnancy and childbirth (inability to conceive, loss, postnatal depression, difficulty adapting to parenthood)
